Students of UMS participate in a number of charitable activities, allowing them to understand and appreciate the need for giving back to the community. Students are well aware that not everybody lives a privileged lifestyle, and are taught that they don’t own the world but share it collectively with others. Students participate in a variety of events which have been outlined below.
Every year UMS participates in the Jump Rope for Heart and Hoops for Heart event with proceeds benefiting the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
Terry Fox Run
Students at UMS participate in the Terry Fox Run with proceeds going to the Terry Fox Foundation and cancer research. This has become a popular event held every September.
Veterans Association of Markham
The Remembrance Day Poppy Drive is an annual event at UMS. Each year all students are provided with a poppy and a small envelope for a voluntary contribution. We are pleased to present an annual donation to the Veterans Association of Markham.
Annual Toy Drive
Each year, the Parent Council and staff of UMS present the Markham Fire Station with a collection of toys and a financial donation. Toys donated are part of a school wide toy drive and monetary proceeds are raised through a variety of fundraising events.
